Reimagining an Aging Ski Chalet with Character, Comfort, and Craftsmanship
Located in Alpine, Golden Spruce was entrusted with the full execution of an ambitious transformation: turning an aging ski chalet into a warm, comfortable family home. What began as a dated structure has become a refined, character-rich retreat designed for real mountain living.
The project involved a seamless garage addition and a complete interior demolition. The kitchen, bathrooms, powder room, laundry, mudroom, entryways, and deck were fully rebuilt and reimagined with thoughtful craftsmanship and durable materials. All mechanical and electrical systems were replaced, and the ventilation system was modernized to meet today’s standards for performance, air quality, and comfort—without compromising the home’s original character.
To further strengthen the home’s warmth and authenticity, beautiful wood-framed windows and doors—finished with copper exterior cladding—were carefully selected. These elements not only elevate the architectural presence of the house but also echo the timeless, tactile materials found throughout the interior. Their natural tones and craftsmanship reinforce the welcoming atmosphere and contribute to the home’s lasting character.
At the heart of the renovation was a commitment to responsible building. We prioritized low-VOC products to ensure healthier indoor air for the family, selected noble, long-lasting materials that age gracefully, and made lighting choices centered on comfort and well-being. Rather than relying exclusively on LED lighting—which can feel too sharp in a cozy mountain setting—we used a balanced approach with warmer sources and layered illumination to create a gentle, inviting atmosphere.
The transformation of this Alpine Way chalet reflects Golden Spruce’s ability to deliver complex, high-expectation projects—honouring Whistler’s built heritage while creating contemporary spaces where creativity, technical precision, and craftsmanship come together.
