For him, each project is an opportunity to make a lasting impact—creating spaces that are not just functional but meaningful and enduring.

The story

behind

The Early Years

Born into a family of engineers, Karl’s fascination with construction began early. As a kid, he was the one taking things apart just to understand how they worked. By his teenage years, he was already apprenticing under master carpenters on the South Shore of Montreal, learning the trade hands-on before even finishing high school. In 2001, while completing a diploma in computer sciences, Karl earned his carpentry certification—a blend of technical knowledge and hands-on expertise that would shape his future in the industry.

2005

Snowboarding had always been a passion, and Whistler was the place to be. What started as an adventure turned into an opportunity—Karl landed his first contract as a self-employed carpenter. His skills quickly put him at the heart of some of Whistler’s most iconic projects, including:

  • Squamish Lil'wat Cultural Centre

  • Whistler Olympic Park

  • Peak to Peak Gondola

  • Fitzsimmons Hydro Electric

  • Whistler Athletes Village

2008

With a growing network and a solid reputation, Karl took the leap and incorporated his first company, French Connexion Carpentry Ltd. This opened the door to new collaborations and high-profile builds such as:

  • Fitzsimmons Walk Townhouses

  • HI Whistler

  • Cheakamus Crossing

2010-2012

After the 2010 Olympics, Karl set off on a global journey—working his way through Southeast Asia, Australia, and New Zealand. From concrete forming for the Cairns Cruise Ship Terminal to building high-end condos in Margaret River, AU, he absorbed new techniques and perspectives that would later influence his approach to construction.

2012-2015

In 2013, Karl returned to Quebec to build his own home. But the mountains never stopped calling. In 2015, he made his way back to the Sea-to-Sky corridor for good.

2015-2020

Karl worked with some of Whistler’s most respected companies, including RDC Fine Homes and Innovation Building Group. Eventually, he took on a leadership role at JSTL Construction Ltd., restructuring the business and refining operations as a project coordinator and business manager.

2020

With years of hands-on experience and leadership behind him, Karl launched Golden Spruce General Contractor Corporation—a company rooted in high-performance homes, sustainable construction, and optimized workflows.

For Karl, it’s more than just building. It’s about creating lasting structures that align with the landscape, the people who live in them, and the future they’re built for.
